Amalaki fruit (known as makham pom in Thai) is the most important botanical in the Ayurvedic medical system  which was recorded   (written down)  in India over 5000 years ago.  The Lord Buddha’s personal physician traveled with him throughout Asia and taught the use of Ayurvedic herbs and meridians which became the basis of Chinese medicine.
